Sestiere Santa Croce is divided
in 2 distinctive areas. The eastern part is very representative
of the old venice. You will not find many tourist in this
part of town. The western part has been turned into a
industrial and commercial area.
Chiesa di S. Stae
This is a symbol of the
Baroque art of the beginning of the 18th century. This
piece of architecture is loaded with groups of marble
decorations.
Fondaco dei Turchi
Very impressive palace with an outstanding view on the
Grande Canal. This building has been badly damaged and
has been completely rebuilt in 1860's. Now there is a
Museum of Natural History.
Palazzo Pesaro
Now the international Gallery of Modern art and Museum
of Oriental Art, the Palazzo Pesaro is one of the most
sumptuous and imposing buildings of the 17th century. |
